Trading software must be free of gimmicks and useless extras.

Your trading platform has to be free of useless visual gimmicks and cute accessory. The color scheme should be subdued and calming – having the ability to customize is an advantage. Especially stay away from casino like displays with flashes, sounds, colors all over the place, as it will be much harder to concentrate on the price data, and analysis in such a stimulative environment.

The system must be simple

By the word “simple” we do not imply that it should have no exceptional features, useful additions that make it stand out, but that when they are implemented, they should mesh in seamlessly with the rest of the platform, be easy to use, and accessible. Timing is of importance in trading, and if utilizing any of the unusual features of a trading software leads to a clumsy and time-consuming experience, their benefit will be diminished to the point of irrelevance. This is especially so for the short-term trader for whom rapid reaction and quick evaluation of information are of crucial value.

Support staff must be competent and reliable

The best trading software will be useless if it is not maintained against bugs and failures that are discovered in time. In addition, only a competent support staff may answer your questions when you encounter difficulties in making use of the system. The support staff need not be employing experts, but a degree of competence is a must.

Forex trading robots are becoming increasingly popular with people buying these trading robots in their droves. It’s easy to see why because most of them promise healthy profits and can be easily integrated into Metatrader4, but how profitable are they in reality?

Well it should be pointed out that nearly all forex trading robots will have compelling sales pages, and impressive looking performance records, but you have to be careful about building your hopes up too much about any particular program. There are many forex trading robots on the market nowadays. Some are a complete waste of time while others are very profitable. If you do a bit of searching online and buy a few systems you will quickly discover which programs are worth continuing with, and which ones should be refunded.

You have very little to lose by trying out different systems because you can always ask for a refund within a set time which gives you plenty of time to try out different systems using a demo account to see how profitable they are.

Don’t expect vast profits from forex trading robots. The ones that claim they’re super profitable and promise you that you will become rich beyond your wildest dreams are generally the ones worth avoiding. The best automated trading robots will steadily increase your bankroll over the long run, helping you to make slow and steady profits.

Always look for those trading programs that generally make more winning calls than losing ones based on past performance, and that adopt a solid stop loss strategy to minimize any losses. These systems are usually good candidates for making long-term profits.

Forex trading is not a get rich quick scheme. You can of course make a lot of money, but the key is to use sound money management rules and use a solid trading strategy, which is where forex trading robots come in. The best trading robots will trade automatically for you using tried and tested strategies devised by the owner of the robot, and can often make very nice profits for you in the long run.

This article discusses whether forex trading or share trading is more profitable when trading on an intraday basis.

With the current financial markets being so volatile, a lot of traders have switched from long-term investing to short-term trading, as there’s potentially a lot more money to be made. However which is more profitable - forex or shares?

Many people are able to make short-term profits from both forex and shares. I myself do alright from both forex and share trading but in my opinion forex trading is the more profitable. This is mainly because the chart movements are more predictable and the major currency pairs conform extremely well to technical analysis.

When you trade forex you know pretty much when all the market-moving news announcements and economic data releases are scheduled, so you can plan in advance to be out of the market when these announcements are made. Therefore you can concentrate solely on technical analysis knowing that the price of the currency pair you are trading is not going to be distorted by any unforeseen announcements. There are very occasional exceptions to this rule such as major news stories or unscheduled interest rate announcements, for example, that can move the markets but these are rare.
                                          
Unfortunately this is not the case when you are trading shares. Although most trading statements are scheduled and known in advance, you can still get company-specific news releases, which may be positive or negative. For example, you might get an announced news release mentioning a new contract win which could dramatically lift the share price, or conversely you could get a profit warning completely out of the blue which could cause the share price to plunge in a matter of seconds or minutes.

So you can never entirely relax when you are trading shares because there is always the chance of a market-moving announcement being made about the company. Furthermore although a lot of share price graphs do conform fairly well to technical analysis, this certainly isn’t always the case, and sometimes the price will be more affected by the wider market. So a top FTSE 100 share could be majorly oversold on a technical basis, but if the FTSE 100 index takes a dive, then the share price of the company in question could well continue to fall even further.

So overall my personal preference when it comes to short-term trading is to trade forex because you can focus entirely on technical analysis, and can base your trading around the scheduled economic data releases. Plus of course the forex pairs, in my experience, conform slightly better to technical analysis than individual shares.

This article discusses why long term trading can be just as profitable as short term trading.

Many traders trade the markets several times a week, or even several times every day, but it’s important to note that long term forex trading can be just as profitable, if not more so. Just one long term position can potentially yield a lot more profit that hundreds of smaller positions.

If you’ve ever tried short term forex trading or scalping, you will know that it can be very stressful at the best of times. You have to think on your feet and react quickly to the movements of the market. You also have to contend with requotes and being monitored by your forex broker if you are doing a lot of very short term trading. There’s also the possibility of the platform going down temporarily which can destroy a short-term position, whereas for longer trades it’s not really an issue.

This is why it’s generally a good idea to trade 1 hour or 4 hour charts at the very least, because you have more time to analyse your entries and exits, and you can relax a lot more than if you were constantly entering and exiting positions all day long. If you really want to adopt a hands-off approach and leave your trading positions to unwind gradually you can adopt a really long term approach.

This involves trading daily, weekly or even monthly charts and is ideal for those people who maybe have a full-time job but still want to trade and make money from the forex markets. You simply wait for the right set-up and hold on to a position until it reaches it’s conclusion, depending on your own particular trading criteria.

For example, if you were interested in just trading the monthly charts you could decide to adopt an Exponential Moving Average crossover system to enter and exit your trades. So for instance you could wait until the EMA (5) crosses the EMA (20) or you could only enter a position when the EMA (5) and/or the EMA (20) crosses the EMA (50). If you make the right call, you can potentially yield thousands of points profit trading this way.
                                               
Take a look at the monthly charts of some of the major currency pairs for example. You will see after the EMA (5) crossed upwards through the EMA (20) on the GBP/USD pair in 2006, the price subsequently rose nearly 3000 points over the next 2 years, which is nearly $30,000 profit if you were trading 1 lot.

It’s a similar story on the USD/JPY currency pair. You will see by looking at the monthly chart that the EMA (5) crossed downwards through the EMA (20) last year and the price subsequently fell another 2000 points over the next 6 months.

So don’t think that you have to be constantly trading the markets all day long in order to make decent profits from forex trading because long term trading can be just as lucrative, and is certainly a lot less stressful.

Forex Trading - Understanding Forex Charts

Understanding technical analysis and, in particular, being able to read price charts is essential for any Forex trader. This article serves as an introduction to the often complex world of Forex charting.

For the majority of Forex traders their trading strategy will be based very largely on technical analysis. This means, amongst other things, that the Forex trader must have a sound knowledge of technical analysis and, in particular, an ability to read charts.
                                     
Price charts are used to convey information about Forex prices at specific time intervals, which can range from as little as one minute up to several years. Prices can either be plotted as simple line charts or price variations can be plotted for each time interval to produce a bar or candlestick pattern.

Line charts are particularly suitable for giving a broad overview of price movements. They are normally plotted to show the closing price at each chosen time interval and they are easy to read and clearly define patterns in price movements.

Although not quite as easy to read, bar charts provide far more information. The length of each bar is used to indicate the price spread for a given period, with long bars indicating a large variation between high and low prices. Opening prices will be shown on the left tab of a bar and closing prices on the right tab so that you can see at a glance whether the price has risen or fallen and just what the variation in price was. When printed out bar charts can be difficult to read but most software charts will have a zoom function which makes reading closely spaced bars much easier.

Candlestick charts, which were invented by the Japanese to analyze rice contracts, are similar to bar charts but are easier to read as they are color-coded. Green candlesticks are used to show rising prices and red candlesticks to show falling prices.

When reading candlestick charts the candlestick shapes viewed in relation to one another form various patterns according to the price spread and the proximity are opening to closing prices. Many of these patterns have been given names such as ‘Morning Star’ and ‘Dark Cloud Cover’ and once you become familiar with these patterns it is easy to pick them out on a chart and to identify trends in the market.

To supplement the information provided by charts a number of technical indicators are also used. These include trend indicators, strength indicators, volatility indicators and cycle indicators and all of these are used to anticipate movements in the market and market volume.

The most commonly used Forex technical indicators include:

Average Directional Movement (ADX). ADX is used to determine whether or not a market is entering an upward or downward trend and just how strong the trend is.

Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD). MACD shows the momentum of a market and the relationship between two moving averages. When, for example, the MACD line crossings of the signal line it indicates a strong market.

Stochastic Oscillator. The stochastic oscillator indicates the strength or weakness of a market by comparing a closing price to a price range over a period of time. A high stochastic indicates a currency that is overbought while a low stochastic points to a currency which is oversold.

Relative Strength Indicator (RSI). RSI is a scale from 0 to 100 which indicates the highest and lowest prices over a given time. When prices rise above 70 the currency is considered to be overbought while a price below 30 would indicate a currency which is oversold.

Moving Average. Moving average is the average price for a given time when compared to other prices during similar time periods. For example, the closing prices over a 7 day time period would have a moving average equal to the sum of the 7 closing prices divided by 7.

Bollinger Bands. Bollinger bands are bands that contain the majority of a currency’s price. Each band consists of three lines - the upper and lower lines indicate the price movement with the middle line showing the average price. In conditions of high volatility the gap between the upper and lower bands will widen. If a bar or candlestick touches one of the bands then it will indicate either an overbought or an oversold condition.

Low Capital Required
Forex Mini Accounts require only $300 to start. This is very fair as most traders trade figures much lager than this. There are very few investments people can get into with just $300. Prospects in Forex are also very good and most people can turn profits within short time frames.

High Leverage
In the stock market if you own $1000 dollars worth of share then you generally can get around $500 to $750 for leverage. These are optimistic figures. In the Forex market due to the liquidity of currency a trader can get up to 100:1 leverage. Pips
One pip equals to $1. Owners of Forex mini accounts can trade in Pips as opposed to dollars. This is in an effort to scale down the risk. Smaller Trading Size
Standard Forex accounts contract sizes are 100,000 units. Whereas, a mini Forex account allows traders to trade in 10,000 units. The smaller trade size allows traders to trade live but with less risk. This is also ideal for those with smaller capital or those who are risk-averse. It is also ideal for beginners who are not yet confident in their abilities and want to test the market with smaller trades. As traders advance and become more confident they can increase they’re lot size to 20,000 units.

Another hidden benefit of trading with a Forex Mini Account is for a trader to become familiar with the procedures and the environment of the Forex trading system. The software used for the mini account is similar to the regular account and has all the same functions.

Forex mini accounts are ideal for traders who are trading less then $10,000 as it allows them more trading opportunities. Before choosing an online forex broker notice that what is their leverage. Many brokerages offer a flexible margin that allows you to choose the leverage that’s right for you.

#4- Account Types

Notice the forex broker you choose has mini account or not. Mini account is designed for those new to online currency trading and those with limited investment capital. There is a smaller deposit required to start trade of just $300 or less.

#5- Trading Platform

Good trading software will show live prices that you can actually trade at, not just indicative quotes. It will offer Limit and Stop orders, and ideally will let you attach these to your entry order.
